This limit 5GB limit is only over a week, and I know exactely why they are doing it;
In the UK, Virgin Media is the biggest broadband supplier, and instead of investing in their infrasturcture to improve the speeds for their huge numbers of customers they put in restrictions so that they can earn all the money without having to spend. As do 90% of UK broadband companies, but becuase Virgin has such a large number of customers they are almost forced (Just to keep their service running) to add even more restictions; for example 'Packet-Shaping' introduced last year to reduce the amount traffic and it seems this year they have introduced 'Throttling' which caps the speed of the top 5% of downloaders for a week.
Yeah it does suck, and I'm sure that this time next year there'll be some other restriction but to be honest I don't care, slow internet for a week will keep me off the computer so I can do other things which is a good thing, so yeah. Also we also get our phone and TV through Virgin, so I doubt I'll be able to switch anyway. lol
