This topic is meant to have the biggest number of possible fixes/work arounds to help improve the AoC experience, or by lowering the crashes, or gaining FPS between other stuff, and obviously, everythign is going to be concentrated in 1 topic, no need to search other places.
If you have any bugs/crashes/weird lag/qwestions/etc. search the topic before posting, after that, post your system specs and we'll try to find a way to fix.
ATTENTION: These fixes MIGHT/MIGHT NOT work for everyone, but nothing is 100% proof, i take no responsability from your actions if something goes rong, also, i take no credit for this, everything was already "found" by other players.
Again, do read the whole topic before posting, use search for keywords like "lag", "out of memory", "crash to desktop", etc. for esier find.

Where it works best:

How to do:
Open Windows Media Player, don't run any music and start AoC
What does it fix?
It fixes lag under the single core machines running in winXP
Win XP/Vista

How to do:
In AoC folder delete (BACKUP FIRST) the following files:
shader.cache
shader.cache.local
shaders_cache
What does it fix?
Lowers the in-game lag and speeds up load times.
Vista

Where it works:
Any machine with windows Vista (32) with +3g
How to do:
To Enable it:
Open the cmd line (Start->Applications->Acessories->Cmd prompt) (in other words: the DOS window), right click it and select "Run as Admin", in order to have admin previleges, then type the following command:
bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072
Reboot machine
To disabled it, do the same as above but type this command insted:
bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa
What it does?
Greatly lowers the in-game lag, FIXES the "out of memory" crashes, lower greatly the CTD (Crash to Desktop) and speeds up load times.

Thanks Goat ,I knew about the wmp trick ,but this little program is much better as it doesn't unnecessarily waste resources.
