Mass Effect 2

Post by Lusitano on Sat Jan 30, 2010 9:15 pm

Having bought the game on Steam, i now share my inicial findings and thoughts on the game. If you didnt play the first game check out the review in the Escapist - http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/18-Mass-Effect

Upsides - Graphics up to date with today spec's; fluid framerate with high resolution and settigs (tweek my nobs); lots of costumization possible on caracther (if you like to play dress up); Bigger game area, more to explore and a complete revamp on the galactic map; new equipment costumization screen; soundtrack keeps up with the pace and action.

Downsides - NPC's AI and movement takes them sometimes to walk and take cover on thin air (ho did this bug passed QA and testing? A company woudnt let this bugs pass in the pre-internet age); right of buying Bioware made avaible 3 DLC's that werent included in the original game, totaling 700Mb of adicional content. All npc's have the same basic outfits with some variations in collour, after all the trouble in making really amazing areas in the game and giving them a real depth to look around it become a bit ridiculous that everyone weres the same clothing (This is the future, full of alien species with diferent costumes and astetics, they could be dressed worst and freakier then a anime caracther and it would still seem apropriate on them)

On the overall it could be very well the RPG of the year. The story gets more dense and many of the previous caracthers rejoin or make apearences.
There is now a heavier sexual presence, as my female caracther could in the first hour of gameplay make advacement and sugestions to several caracther. It still wont get you Mass Erect (again if you did get one on the first game you should really consider investing points in your real social skills), but it seems you'll have more option to go where no man have gone before (insert girl if case)

I'll update this as i keep playing the game.

That game totally blows ASS... Just kidding. I think it was a just and fair review. I have a hard time getting into the single player space role playing games. But if one day the game is free, I may give it a try.
